"This morning's conference was great!  It was a wide range of participants on the panels and that was a great way to hear a wide view of options and ideas from the panelists!  Kevin Hancock gets my vote for most open, honest and helpful answers to questions. He was outstanding and his thoughts today were very heartfelt and honest.  Take away the layers of "facade" and discuss the truth of what it's like and how you face the issuers."

"Behavioral Finance"
We're inviting the men too!

Join the Women in Family-Business for a fun educational afternoon on “Behaviral Finance”  Speaking of which, we’ve heard from our male counterparts who have wanted to be included in our “Women in Family-Business” events so new for 2017, we’re inviting the men to two of our events – “Finding Your Voice” and “Behavioral Finance”!

We’ll learn from Diane Dunton of Potential Released Consulting Services and John LeMieux of Anton LeMieux Financial Group.  We all have unique relationships to money. Within couples, families, and businesses everyone sees money, risk versus return, needs and wants differently.  In this presentation we will explore the impact of emotions on family businesses.  We will discuss triggering events, the concept of emotional intelligence and the balance of emotions and rational decision-making.

We will talk about the academic work being done in the area of Behavioral Finance including introducing the audience to the concepts of various biases we all must cope with, for example, among others:

  • Availability and Anchoring Bias
  • Confirmation and Hindsight Bias
  • Mental Accounting and Fairness Bias

We will tie these academic concepts together as they relate to family business and especially how intergenerational positions, experience and gender roles may affect the dynamics of decision making. We will share a model for decision making and tips for creating a healthy emotional environment.
