"This morning's conference was great!  It was a wide range of participants on the panels and that was a great way to hear a wide view of options and ideas from the panelists!  Kevin Hancock gets my vote for most open, honest and helpful answers to questions. He was outstanding and his thoughts today were very heartfelt and honest.  Take away the layers of "facade" and discuss the truth of what it's like and how you face the issuers."

How To's for Family Business: Succession Planning

8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. - Zoom Webinar

Jim Lyon of Summit 9 Consulting will showcase the work he’s done with Deirdre Wadsworth, president of Hardypond Construction as she took over from her father, Bob Gaudreau, who founded the company in 1990.  They will discuss how Summit 9’s method can help participants start on at least three major considerations for their succession planning: personal readiness, valuations and financial considerations, and succession readiness and development. During the presentation participants will explore a few of the key steps in their succession plan, work on some of the details, and have a framework to continue working on the plan afterwards.

Our panelists include the following:

Jim Lyon - President, Summit 9 Consulting
Jim Lyon is a seasoned executive with startup through Fortune 500 experience in marketing, sales, finance, IT management, and strategic planning.    Since 2006, he has been helping Maine businesses achieve record revenues and manage all the challenges of growth and succession.   He helps clients in many industries including retail, manufacturing, services, healthcare, construction, and more.  His clients achieve their definition of success by learning to overcome obstacles and to apply better business practices.  Jim has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA in Economics from Grinnell College.

Deirdre Wadsworth - President, Hardypond Construction
Deirdre began learning the construction trade in third grade when her father, founded Hardypond Construction. Bob Gaudreau - Vice President & Project Manager, Hardypond Construction
Since 1990, Bob Gaudreau has watched his company grow from a startup to a major competitor in Maine’s construction industry. Bob’s love of renovation work was the fuel that sustained Hardypond Construction throughout its initial development. For years, Bob led on projects that presented unique construction problems that had to be solved with out-of-the-box thinking.

In addition to being the founder, co-owner, and Vice President of Hardypond Construction, Bob can be seen drawing up estimates, working in the field as a Project Manager, and doing anything in between –– he’ll jump in wherever help is needed. Outside of Hardypond, Bob has many other business ventures and served on numerous committees and boards, including the CMCC Foundation Board for 30 years. Bob is an avid gardener and enjoys being active outdoors with his dog Oliver.
