"This morning's conference was great!  It was a wide range of participants on the panels and that was a great way to hear a wide view of options and ideas from the panelists!  Kevin Hancock gets my vote for most open, honest and helpful answers to questions. He was outstanding and his thoughts today were very heartfelt and honest.  Take away the layers of "facade" and discuss the truth of what it's like and how you face the issuers."

How Do I Know If I Need an Outside Board?

8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. - Continental Breakfast & Registration

8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Program

Often referred to as a cornerstone of effective family governance, there are many benefits to establishing a board.  The purpose of this program is to educate family businesses about the different types of boards and the values they bring.  We will explore the evolution of a board from a family-only board to an advisory board with independent directors to a fiduciary board.

Presented by Quad Group partners, Anne Hussey and Maureen Wedge, learn how to overcome obstacles, establish a board, identify potential members and engage family owners.  Hear from panel members including Gary Merrill, Hussey Seating’s CEO and Catherine Cloudman, independent board member about real life experiences.

We will talk about the differences between family members and independent members.  Board criteria, terms, evaluations and committees will also be discussed.  The group will then review best practices for agenda development and communication. Attendees should leave the program with the information needed to start – or continue – discussion and actions to acquire outside perspective from a board or advisory board.  Come see which board model is right for you!
